Derbyshire encompasses the majority of the Peak District, but also shares it with Staffordshire, Cheshire, and South Yorkshire. Therefore, when most people think of Derbyshire, the automatically think of the Peaks. However, Derbyshire stretches quite a way further south and only just includes Derby itself and parts of Burton on Trent.

When it comes to holidaying in Derbyshire, most people will automatically again look at the Peal District, however there are some wonderful towns and villages such as Matlock, Ashbourne, Belper, Carsington, Wirksworth, and many others that have stunning scenery and plenty to do. For local attractions, Carsington Water Park has many activities and walks, and Matlock has an abundance of old world charm and a charming theme park for children. Shortly outside the county, Alton Towers is a very popular attraction.

You can also try out hang gliding, paragliding, and microlighting at Darley Moor Airfield just outside Ashbourne. Perhaps even a spot of caving in the many limestone mines such as the Blue John Caverns near Castleton. Alternatively, you have hundreds of walks on your doorstep, of differing lengths and difficulties, including the impressive Kinder Scout.
